Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives - Virginia's 7th District at Joe Walton for Virginia
Joe has been a leader in technology and business administration for over twenty years serving in both entrepreneurial and large enterprise roles. His technology experience began with telecom carrier installation and grew into consulting for information security and management roles. He has been active in public policy & non-profit service in central Virginia for many years, and in various capacities. He holds a CISSP, among other industry certifications, in technology infrastructure and information security disciplines.
As a former Bitcoin miner and all-around cryptocurrency HODLer, his first public policy paper on cryptocurrency was in the fall of 2014 available on SSRN, written before blockchain took on a life of its own in 2015. Since then, he has written extensively on cryptocurrency, blockchain, socio-economic value, and the social life of money, with drafts pending for publication and a recent conference presentation on blockchain and digital crime. He believes U.S. legislators and regulators should exhort the safe and effective interaction with blockchain and cryptocurrency by the general public and surveil and collaborate internationally on worldwide usage of blockchain and cryptocurrencies generally.
He earned his B. S. in Science, with a minor in Physics, and Master of Public Administration (MPA) from VCU. He is currently a dissertation-phase doctoral student in the Public Policy & Administration Ph.D. program at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs. His doctoral research focuses on the semiotics of cryptocurrency, blockchain, socio-economic value, social & technical change, and public policy.Buy Ticket Book a Meeting
